What’s on the SAT Math Test?
The SAT is a college-admissions exam from the College Board. Since 2024 it is fully digital and adaptive: the Math section is split into two modules, and your performance on the first module determines the difficulty of the second.
SAT Math has 44 questions with a 70-minute limit. Most are multiple-choice, with some student-produced “grid-in” responses. A graphing calculator (built-in Desmos) is allowed on every question, and a reference sheet of formulas is provided.
The content is grouped into four areas: Algebra (linear equations and systems), Advanced Math (quadratics, exponentials, and functions), Problem-Solving & Data Analysis (ratios, percentages, and statistics), and Geometry & Trigonometry.
Scoring: the Math section is scored from 200 to 800, and combines with Reading & Writing for a total of 400–1600. A Math score of 600+ is competitive for many colleges.

Question 1 of 1010%
Q1 · Linear equation
If 5x − 3 = 17, what is x?
A) 2
B) 4
C) 5
D) 20
Show answer
B) 4. Add 3 (5x = 20), divide by 5 → x = 4.
Q2 · Percentages
A $40 shirt is 30% off. What is the sale price?
A) $12
B) $28
C) $30
D) $52
Show answer
B) $28. 30% of 40 = 12; 40 − 12 = 28.
Q3 · Systems
If 2x + y = 11 and x = 3, what is y?
A) 2
B) 5
C) 8
D) 17
Show answer
B) 5. 2(3) + y = 11 → y = 5.
Q4 · Quadratics
Solve: x² − 7x + 12 = 0.
A) −3, −4
B) 2, 6
C) 3, 4
D) 1, 12
Show answer
C) 3, 4. Factor: (x − 3)(x − 4) = 0.
Q5 · Exponents
Simplify: (x³)².
A) x⁵
B) x⁶
C) x⁹
D) 2x³
Show answer
B) x⁶. Multiply exponents: 3 × 2 = 6.
Q6 · Functions
If f(x) = 3x + 2, what is f(4)?
A) 9
B) 14
C) 18
D) 20
Show answer
B) 14. 3(4) + 2 = 14.
Q7 · Ratios
In a 3 : 5 ratio, if the first quantity is 12, what is the second?
